Military
Odyssey 2016
Over the Bank Holiday weekend
RT members attended the Military Odyssey show,
which is a multi period event held in Kent,
England.
We had a good turn out of
members and displays.
With the usual vehicles in
attendance the star of this years display was
the Burton Family display tent featuring a wide
range of equipment and uniforms all set within
Dioramas including the rare ADSIDs (Air
Delivered Seismic Intrusion Device) The overall
theme was use of the HO Chi Minh Trail by the
communists and attempts by the U.S. and SVN to
stop men and material from entering South
Vietnam via the Trail and waterways. This Museum
quality display was truly inspiring specially
knowing that this put together by only 3 of our members with
small logistics.
The public and fellow
re-enactors really enjoyed it and it showed
other areas of the war not often seen.
But again you don't need that much to share your
interest with the public as another one of our
member, Les demonstrated with his Demo man kit
display which attracted a lot of attention.
We were also lucky enough to
have two of our members set up a Australian
Salvation Army Red Shield tent with endless
Tea and Coffee, cokes and Anzac biscuits made
to a recipe from the 60's and as you can
imagine they were all gone by the end of the
show :)
As
usual, a few of us took the opportunity do do
some photo shoots in the nearby woods with
subject like US early advisers wearing the Beo
Gam often referred as "duck Hunter"
uniform or Dien Bien Phu, representing the 1st
French Foreign Legion Paratroops battalion,
1er BEP.

We also took part with other
groups in a arena battle for the public and as
you can tell things got a little warm for our
members and certainly impressed the public.
Thanks again to Fred Cornwall for the warm
welcome in the arena :)
And yes you can get a Tan at Military Odyssey,
the front line troops did! :-)
This
is a really nice show with a lot of potential
where all ages world wide history all mix in a
single event.
