Uniform regulations

During public open show hours when on display or in the arena, Rolling Thunder members will have to adhere to our uniform and equipment guidelines.

Hair
Regulation military haircut
(No1 for lifers)

Beards
No beards
Your look may be ideal for the 70's, but if you are portraying a mid 60's unit, your goatee will look out of place!
Moustaches and goatee-beards were mainly worn in the 70's.
Beard can sometime be acceptable for US Navy or French Indochina (check first)

Earrings
Earrings must be removed for the duration of the show

Tattoos
Tattoos were rare in
Vietnam (except those of a Military nature which were mainly worn by Airborne, Special Forces, Seals, and Rangers, Marines and were on arms, shoulder or chest).
If you have modern tattoo keep them covered

(On a photo, they will give you away and spoil all your hard work and your mates ones!)

So please use the right look for the period you are depicting.

Minimum required kit (US ARMY)

Correct war time baseball cap or boonie hat
Correct war time uniform or good quality repro
(if badged, this is need to be done correctly and relating to your age)
Correct jungle boots, period or 80's, watched out as some of the repros are not acceptable due to their poor
quality
M1 60's helmet with correct helmet cover and band (no woodland cover, no cat eye on the band, watch out for the post war chin straps, and don't forget that they were often removed in the field, so you can easily transform a post war helmet in a war time by dropping the straps!)
M56 load carrying equipment
(watch out for British water bottle, they are the wrong colour and are not acceptable)
Weapon
(Repro, de-act or good airsoft), please note this must be relevant to your rank and position.
For example shoulder holster were used by officers in line infantry units not by NCO contrary to what you do see in war films,
but they were used a lot by Special units like SOG , LRRP, SEAL)
