Willys MB Jeep
Manufactured in March 1944
Known History
First registered in the UK in 1947. Purchased in late 2012
and carried out an extensive restoration, as the jeep had been standing still
for 5 years and with
a previous poor mechanical restoration.
PRESENT UNITS MARKINGS
“markings on magnetic plates”
Indochina French Army (CEFEO) number plate, no specific unit.
Being a War Time Jeep, this would have been brought in Indochina with the Corps Expeditionnaire Francais
d ‘Extreme-Orient” (CEFEO) led by General Leclerc in October 1945 and would more than likely seen action in WWII with the 2nd DB.
By the summer of 1954 when French troops rotated back to France marking the end of the 1st Indochina war, a lot of their vehicles were left to the newly formed Vietnamese Army.
In the late 1960’s in South Vietnam, a few where still used by civilians or as private purchase by soldiers or units.
Seal Team Two, Da Nang South Vietnam
Photographed with Seal Team two in Da Nang and bearing Vietnamese Army markings. (Note the insert filling panel used above the windscreen to give more headroom)
